We welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister setting out his Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. In particular, we welcome support for the Humber as one of the leading industrial clusters to deploy carbon capture technology to protect and create tens of thousands of skilled jobs, decarbonise industry and lay the foundations for a globally competitive hydrogen economy in the UK.
We firmly believe the road to net-zero starts in the Humber and that’s why we’ve invested in developing a vision to decarbonise the largest emitting industrial cluster in the UK. But we now need to now make the vision real and we strongly agree with government that we must work together to deliver clusters in the 2020s if they are serious about reaching net zero by 2050.
Our proposals will not only significantly lower emissions in the region, but will also future-proof major local employers, and protect jobs and skills, whilst creating thousands more highly skilled roles, in line with the Government’s plan to protect and create jobs in regions like the Humber. Our private and public funded bid to the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF), worth £75m, illustrates the investment that can be stimulated by ambitious plans and robust commitments from Government.
As part of the ISCF process we are working hard to engage stakeholders about our proposals, including running a free webinar on Thursday morning (19th November, 11am-1pm), to which we’ve had a phenomenal response. This interest, as well as the fifty-plus letters of support received from a wide range of organisations, indicates the strength of Zero Carbon Humber’s bid, and we are delighted that this is recognised by the Prime Minister.
